Hyrule Historia!!

Hyrule-Historia-Cover 2This has been a long time coming. A really long time coming. There is only one video game in the history of video games with the kind of epic history and legendary story-telling that The Legend of Zelda has, and that will never change. And after 25 years of wonderful stories and gameplay, Nintendo finally released the full history of Hyrule. It was released in Japan last year, coupled with the release of Skyward Sword, but it took a year to bring it to America. And I’m excited (though not surprised) to learn it’s already a New York Times Bestseller. Amazon is selling it for less than $20, and the reviews are beyond glowing.

The Hyrule Historia is packed with the complete history of the series, from the creation of Hyrule to the split timelines. It also includes artwork, storyboards, related manga, and background to the game’s history. 300 pages of wonderful reading that I ate up like ice cream, all packed into a gorgeous Link-green, hard-bound package.

I certainly knew long ago that I wasn’t the only one clamoring for this. Last year, Gametrailers released their own timeline theory and it was pretty amazing. It got a few millions views, counting all its subsequent reviews and shares. It was the first time I’d heard the “split timeline” theory. At the time, I had no idea Hyrule’s history could be explained using all the games, but after watching the video, I really wanted to know if it was true. Well, Gametrailers actually got a lot of it right, although the split timeline was actually quite a bit different.

If you have ever played a Zelda game, you know how good it is. And if you know how good the games are, then you will absolutely love this. Seriously, go check it out and be amazed. You won’t regret it.
